News brief | 4 October 2026
Campaigning for six by-elections has ended, with polling scheduled for Tuesday, October 6, according to News on AIR. The contests cover five Assembly constituencies across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and West Bengal, alongside the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat in Assam.
The by-polls will fill vacancies in the respective legislatures. Polling arrangements, voter identification requirements and local timings are administered by election officials in each constituency.
Counting is scheduled for Friday, October 9. Until then, campaign claims and unofficial projections should not be treated as results.
This is a procedural election update. Voters should consult the Election Commission or their state Chief Electoral Officer for polling-station details and any last-minute instructions.
